Currently, KU hosts more than 400 international students, approximately 12% of whom are citizens of India. During the visit, the Ambassador met with the University’s leadership, including Rector Prof. Dr Artūras Razbadauskas, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Assoc. Prof. Dr Laura Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė, Vice-Rector for Infrastructure and Development Dr Benediktas Petrauskas, as well as a researcher from the Marine Research Institute, the Head of the International Relations Office, and other administrative representatives. The meeting included presentations on KU’s study and research opportunities and discussions on cooperation directions, as well as prospects for the development of scientific research and academic exchange.
Rector Prof. Dr Artūras Razbadauskas emphasised the strategic importance of international partnerships: “International cooperation is a key condition for the growth and competitiveness of Klaipeda University. Partnerships with Indian institutions open up new opportunities not only in studies but also in advanced research and innovation. We aim to build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships that strengthen the University’s internationalisation and contribute to regional development.”
During the visit, the Ambassador also toured the KU STEAM Methodological Centre, where modern laboratories, hands-on activities, research projects, and mentorship programmes were presented. Mr. Devesh Uttam became acquainted with the added value created by the centre in the fields of education and innovation, as well as its role in strengthening the competencies of young researchers.
An important part of the visit was a meeting with KU students from India. The students shared their academic and social experiences, highlighting a supportive study environment, an inclusive community, and real career opportunities. According to them, some graduates successfully find employment in the city of Klaipėda, while others continue their professional careers at the University itself.
Samanta Simonavičė, Head of the International Relations Office, emphasised the importance of quality in attracting international students: “Klaipeda University is committed to ensuring a high-quality selection of international students, focusing on motivated and academically strong candidates. Our goal is not only to increase internationalisation but also to consistently attract talent to the University and the Klaipėda region, providing them with opportunities to realise their potential in both academic and professional fields.”
The meeting also highlighted the need to create more favourable conditions for talented students from India to come and study in Lithuania. Currently, the admission and arrival process remains complex and requires closer institutional cooperation. It was emphasised that more efficient solutions require active engagement from all stakeholders, including the Embassy of India, Lithuanian migration authorities, and academic and administrative institutions in both countries. Only coordinated and consistent action would help simplify procedures and create more attractive conditions for highly qualified students choosing to study in Lithuania.
KU’s consistent cooperation with India is also reflected in its active participation in international higher education networks and events, such as the Global Education Summit. Through these forums, KU strengthens ties with Indian universities and educational institutions, establishes new partnerships, and develops existing academic contacts. In 2023, the University was represented by Prof. Dr Loreta Kelpšaitė-Rimkienė, and in 2025 by Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Assoc. Prof. Dr Laura Šaltytė-Vaisiauskė. Such targeted international engagement not only enhances the University’s visibility in India but also fosters long-term strategic partnerships in studies, research, and innovation, ensuring sustainable growth of mutually beneficial cooperation.
