The Order was presented to the Rector on 29 January during a formal state dinner held on the occasion of the Danish King’s visit. The insignia of the Order of the Dannebrog was conferred upon Professor Artūras Razbadauskas by King Frederik X of Denmark together with Queen Mary. The event was attended by high-ranking state officials as well as representatives of the scientific, cultural and public sectors.
The insignia of the Order of the Dannebrog is awarded to individuals whose activities contribute to strengthening international relations, fostering trust-based dialogue, and developing long-term partnership initiatives between countries. The award serves as an expression of gratitude for services rendered to Denmark. Established in 1671, the ribbon of the Order reflects the colours of the Danish flag – white and red. This honour highlights the role of the Rector of Klaipeda University in building sustainable academic bridges between Lithuania and Denmark.
“I accept this Order as a recognition of Klaipeda University and our entire academic community. Denmark is an important partner for Klaipeda University, united with us through joint maritime, scientific and innovation projects, as well as shared values – openness, quality and sustainable development. This recognition further strengthens our commitment to consistently enhance international cooperation,” says Professor Artūras Razbadauskas.
For many years, Klaipeda University has been purposefully cooperating with Danish higher education and research institutions, implementing joint projects in the areas of marine sciences, environmental protection, health, technology and innovation, while also maintaining close ties with the Danish business sector.
The presentation of the insignia of the Order of the Dannebrog to the Rector further enhances the University’s international visibility and confirms KU’s position as a reliable and significant partner in the Northern European academic space.
This recognition is important not only personally for the Rector, but also for Klaipeda University as a whole – it opens up new opportunities to expand joint projects, deepen international dialogue, and engage more actively in addressing relevant regional and global scientific challenges.
