A Dissertation Prepared and Defended at Klaipėda University is among the Top Ten Dissertations by Young Researchers

The Lithuanian Society of Young Researchers (LSYR) has announced the winners of the competition for the best PhD dissertations in the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts defended in 2022. The list of the best-ranked young scholars includes dr Atas Žvirblys, a former PhD student at the Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology of KU, with his dissertation  "Clay Pipes in Vilnius and Klaipėda of the Seventeenth  through the First Half of the Nineteenth Century in the European Context", which was prepared and defended at KU. The dissertation was supervised by assoc. prof. dr Gintautas Zabiela.

This is the 17th time the Lithuanian Society of Young Researchers has organised the competition. As was announced, 108 dissertations defended in 2022 were submitted for this year's competition: 64 works in the fields of Natural Sciences, Technology, Medicine and Health, and Agriculture, and 44 in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts.

193 experts took part in the evaluation of the dissertations and selected the 10 best dissertations defended in Lithuanian science and study institutions as well as 2 dissertations defended by Lithuanian citizens in science and study institutions abroad.  

The winners will be awarded by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, who is the patron of this initiative of the LSYR.
