On 19 January at 7:00 PM, a concert by Klaipėda Choir “Aukuras” will take place at the Stained Glass Hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Klaipėda University (S. Nėries St. 5, Klaipėda). This will be the first performance by a professional choir in the Stained Glass Hall after its renovation.

The evening programme will feature choral music by Lithuanian and international composers, ranging from classical repertoire to contemporary works of strong artistic and technical expression.
“Aukuras” is a professional choir and one of the most prominent choral ensembles in Western Lithuania. Founded in 1993 on the initiative of choral conductors Alfonsas Vildžiūnas and Vladimiras Konstantinovas, the choir was led by A. Vildžiūnas from 1996 to 2022. Since autumn 2022, the ensemble has been directed by Tomas Ambrozaitis. With more than three decades of activity, the choir is known for its wide-ranging repertoire—from classical choral music to contemporary, technically demanding works, as well as jazz and popular music programmes.
Highly regarded by professionals for its rich sound, precise intonation, and creative interpretations, “Aukuras” is an active participant in Klaipėda’s musical life. Throughout its history, the choir has collaborated with both renowned artists and emerging creators. It is a laureate of fourteen international competitions and has performed not only in Lithuania but also across Europe, as well as in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Israel, and Thailand.
The renovated Stained Glass Hall opens new opportunities for professional music. The Klaipėda University community is delighted to host high-quality cultural events in this space and to invite audiences to live encounters with professional music.
