Vilnius : Vilniaus universiteto leidykla, 2019. - conference paper

; ; Fuel. Oxford : Elsevier Science, 2019, vol. 248., p. 161-167Recent emission related limits imposed on marine fuel are causing the ship owners to look for alternative fuels to comply with the new limits. Depletion of fossil fuel raised the attention of researchers to investigate renewable energy sources such as biodiesel and alcohol. Methanol blends as marine fuel leads to drastically reducing sulfur and particle emissions, adopting methanol also shows lower nitrogen oxide emissions and, when produced from renewable sources, lower CO2 emissions over the entire fuel lifecycle. Biodiesel has the potential in fulfilling the environment and economic concerns as it is a renewable and sustainable energy source. Empirical relationships among physical-chemical properties and blends of biomethanol-biodiesel-diesel were assessed by direct gradient analysis. It was inspected how the physical-chemical properties change along an ordination axis of detrended correspondence analysis using “vegan” package in R. Physical-chemical properties from the multivariate model were predicted by using two types of blends’ data. The first one was based on the simulated ranges from the used data in calibration of the redundancy analysis, whereas the second one consisted of simulated ranges extrapolated up to 99% of both blends. It was concluded that a blend with 10% biomethanol and 20% biodiesel was the most suitable alternative fuel for marine applications (considering to ISO 8217:2012 standard and environmental requirements for marine fuel).Scopus© Citations 45WOS© IF 5.578WOS© AIF 5.559Scopus© SNIP 2.138 Publication Alternative solutions for marine fuel’s composition towards Marine Strategy Directive performanceconference paper; ; ;Abele, LilitaЭкобалтика : 16-й международный молодежный научно-экологический форум стран балтийского региона : 07-09 октября 2019 : сборник тезисов. Akademija : Lietuvos agrarinių ir miškų mokslų centras, 2019, t. 106, Nr. 4., p. 315-320Acid precipitation accelerates acidification process in the soil and facilitates nutrient leaching. The study aimed to explore the effects of long-term liming on aluminium (Al) leaching by comparing a limed soil with an unlimed soil at different acidity (pH) levels of simulated acid rain (SAR). The columns of unlimed and limed soil were watered with SAR at 5.4, 4.7 and 4.0 pH levels. Aluminium was extracted from the solid phase with the following solutions: ammonium oxalate (non-crystalline Al), sodium pyrophosphate (organically bound Al), copper chloride (organo-Al complexes of low and medium stability), lanthanum chloride (the most labile organo-Al complexes) and ammonium chloride (exchangeable Al). The total Al in the leachate was also determined. Long-term liming had a significant influence on the soil acidity and reduced all Al compounds in the in solid phase. The Al concentrations determined in the leachate of the limed soil were 0.12–0.92 mg L-1 and in that of the unlimed soil – 1.63–2.62 mg L-1. Leaching losses of Al from limed and unlimed soil increased with decreasing acidity of the simulated acid rain. The losses were found to be high when the pH of SAR was 4.0. Al in the leachate was positively correlated with all Al fractions in a solid phase and showed this to be one of the reasons for increased Al leaching from acid soils. Al leaching from the soil depended not only on the pH of simulated acid rain, but also on the soil properties: acidity, Al saturation in the exchange sites (effective cations exchange capacity) and Al compounds in the solid phase of the soil. Limed soil, characterised by a higher buffer capacity (more Ca and Mg), is able to neutralize the effects of acid precipitation and reduce the solubility of Al-containing compounds.Scopus© Citations 5WOS© IF 0.833WOS© AIF 2.184Scopus© SNIP 0.635 - research article

;Blinstrubienė, Justina ;Kruopienė, JolitaIndustrial engineering 2021: international young researchers conference notification material : May 13, 2021, Kaunas, LithuaniaSuitability of pyrolysis to be used as a solution to utilise HDPE packaging waste from plant protection products is analysed in the article. Unwashed and washed packaging was used as a raw material for pyrolysis. Experiment covered laboratory scale pyrolysis and the subsequent extraction of light fractions, gasoline and diesel, from the resulting pyrolytic oils. Density, viscosity and sulphur content were determined for those two fractions. The results demonstrated that HDPE plastic from plant protection products used packaging yielded a high percentage (88.55% for unwashed, and 90.02% for washed packaging) of pyrolytic oils. There was nearly no difference in density and viscosity, but sulphur content was lower in the gasoline and diesel from the washed packaging.3 - research report

; ; Transport means 2019. Sustainability: research and solutions : proceedings of the 23rd international scientific conference : October 02-04, 2019, Palanga, Lithuania. Kaunas : Kaunas University of Technology, 2019, pt 1., p. 320-325Today the world energy market is in great transition and the demand for clean energy such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is increasing rapidly. Offshore large-scale terminals as Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) type are becoming commercially competitive and effective alternative for the areas where onshore gas supply infrastructure is not feasible. LNG production consumes energy (around 850 MJ per ton) and it is stored in the form of “cold energy” which is dumped into seawater or the atmosphere during LNG regasification process despite reusing as extra energy source in many processes. In this research work, mathematical model is performed to determine influence of LNG composition and regasification process parameters to quantity of released LNG cold energy in a large scale FSRU type terminal. It was determined that the potential of LNG cold energy at FSRU could vary from 20 to 25 MWh depending on LNG regasification flow rate, pressure, BOG recondensation as well as composition of LNG.2 - research article
; Environmental science and pollution research. Heidelberg : Springer, 2015, vol. 22, iss. 19., p. 14874-14881One of the most popular transportation methods of crude oil is water transport, leading to potential spills of these pollutants in the seas and oceans and water areas of ports, during their extraction, transportation, transhipment and use. The growth of the Lithuanian economy and the expansion of competitiveness were hardly imagined without the development of the Klaipeda seaport. However, the intensity of shipping and the increase in cargo loading volumes at specialised terminals are associated with a higher risk of environmental pollution. To achieve a sustainable development of the seaport, it is necessary not only to ensure the prevention of potential water pollution but also, if necessary, to use environmentally friendly technology for pollution management. The work analyses the possibilities related to the collection of oil products from the water surface using natural sorbents (peat, wool, moss and straw) and their composites. The research of absorbed amount of crude oil and diesel fuel spilled on the water surface, while using sorbents and their composites, determined that sorbents' composite straw-peat (composition percentage of straw-peat 25-75 %) absorbs the major amount of both crude oil (60 % of the spilled volume) and diesel fuel (69 % of the spilled volume) comparing to single sorbents and sorbents' composite straw-peat (composition percentage of straw-peat 50-50 %).2Scopus© Citations 20WOS© IF 2.76WOS© AIF 3.107Scopus© SNIP 1.061 Publication Arktinio dyzelino technologinės linijos analizė[Analyzes of arctic diesel technology before and after modernization]conference paper; Technologijos mokslo darbai Vakarų Lietuvoje : [V respublikinė mokslinė konferencija, 2006 m. gegužės 18-19 d., Klaipėda, Lietuva]. According to European Parliament and Council directive 2003/17/EB to 2009 the quantity of sulphur compounds in diesel has to be no more than 10 mg/kg. In order to archive this purpose AB "Mažeikių nafta" from 2005 invented the extra kerosene distillation before diesel hydrotreatment process. In article analysis on arctic diesel production technologies before and after modernization, the overall sulphur amount, the limited filtration temperature (LFT), disturbance temperature, cetanine number, the prosperity index, density changes are being compared.- research article
; Journal of maritime transport and engineering. Rīga : Latvian Maritime Academy, 2015, vol. 4, no. 2., p. 26-31Nowadays renewable energy sources are given great consideration. This is determined by the following key factors: aim to ensure energy supply and mitigate dangerous climate change associated with greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. This paper presents the environmental impact in used car tyres life cycle. “Gabi 6” software was used for environmental impact assessment. The four environmental impact categories were evaluated: global warming potential for 100 years, acidification potential, eutrophication potential and ozone layer depletion potential. Results show that even if biofuels are cleaner than usual fossil fuel, production of biofuels make a significant environmental impact.1 - conference paper
;Kochas, Julius ;Sadauskas, JonasŠmatauskas, JustasTransport means 2022. Sustainability: research and solutions : proceedings of the 26th international scientific conference : October 5-7, 2022, online conference, Kaunas, LithuaniaThis paperwork represents the environmental friendliness and the efficiency of the technical parameters of the new ferry „Aura seaways“ on the Klaipeda – Kiel line.
