Abstract
Straipsnyje atskleidžiamos geocheminių tyrimų sudedamosios dalys ir konkrečiais taikymo archeologijoje pavyzdžiais parodoma, kokią įtaką rezultatams ir jų interpretacijai turi analizės metodas bei bandinių paruošimo būdas, kintamųjų atranka, taikant daugiamačius statistinius metodus, kaip ieškoma indikatorinių rodiklių ir kaip jie vizualizuojami geocheminiuose žemėlapiuose.
In the second section,a comparison of data on the chemical composition of ceramic finds, ob-tained by the EDXRF analysis when sample preparation is different,is given.Accidental finds of ce-ramics found in eight Narva age settlements from Belams,Estonia,Latvia, and Lithuania were used for methodical investigations and a comparison of results. The excitation during EDXRF measurements was applied to the external surface of samples prepared in four different ways:1)natūrai unpolished potsherds,2)polished potsherds,3)a pressed pellet with the dilution factor DF=0.25 prepared taking 0.5 g of a ceramics fragment, milling and mixing the material with 1.5 g of a binder(the model of a small amount of material, when only a small fragment of ceramics had been found),4)a pressed pellet with the dilution factor DF 0.82(this is one of the basic methods of sample preparation for EDXRF analysis by which the calibration curves are obtained). The quantitative de-termination of the contents of more than 40 chemical elements is possible by the EDXRF,but only four important geochemical indicators were used for comparison: Si (indicator of the content of quartz sand, other natūrai silicates used for clay dilution),Al (indicator of clay minerals),P (indicator of organic matter),and Ca (indicator of carbonates,e.g.,shells,as additives). The contents of Si,Al,Ca and P,determined by the EDXRF,are given in tables for each way of sample preparation. The Spearman correlation coefficients of the results obtained by the basic sample preparation method with the respective results obtained by the other three sample preparation methods are presented. It is shown that the method of a small amount of material can be successfully used for a practical comparison of the chemical composition of samples. Although an inter-comparison of the chemical composition within the groups of unpolished or polished ceramics analysed by the EDXRF is also possible, not all conclusions will be reliable and reasonable
