Abstract
Although adult education reforms have been in constant progress, innovations have been implemented and material basis improved, teacher qualification has been upgraded, however, not all opportunities provided by teacher development while researching and changing their own direct activity. Therefore, this paper presents one of such opportunities by analysing action research: itš reveals peculiarities, importance and application possibilities of action research in developing teacher professional activity. Personal action research - investigation and correction, based on constant reflection, critical thinking when the outcomes of activity are evaluated - fosters an individual to perceive himself/herself in the rapidly changing world, understand various phenomena, acquire knowledge and experience and ability to cohere them, train self-confidence and self-worth. All these facets are important pursuing professional activity development.
