;Sinkevičienė, Zofija; ; ; ; Oceanological and hydrobiological studies. Berlin : Walter De Gruyter GMBH, 2017, vol. 46, iss. 2., p. 186-198The results of the recent (2014-2015) inventory and three historical datasets (1949-1959, 1960-1980 and 1997-2007) were analyzed in order to track the long-term changes of charophytes in the largest estuarine lagoon of the Baltic Sea. The present species composition of charophytes in the estuarine part of the Curonian Lagoon consisted of 7 species, including tolerant to salinity (Chara aspera, C. contraria, C. globularis and Nitellopsis obtusa) and typical brackish-water species (Chara baltica, C. canescens and Tolypella nidifica). The highest congruence of species was between the 1997-2007 and 2014-2015 datasets, which covered respectively eutrophication and post-eutrophication periods. The 1949-1959 dataset (closest to the reference conditions) differed by the absence of typical brackish-water species. The 1960-1980 dataset (the major period of eutrophication) was relatively poor in study sites and species. During the last 6 decades, only tolerant to salinity freshwater species were constant and abundant; only Nitella mucronata can be considered as extinct. Recently, C. contraria became dominant and widespread. The changes in the charophyte species composition, abundance and distribution can be explained by different intensity of surveys and/or density of study sites, but also by the increased exposure to brackish waters since 1980s and/or recently reduced effect of eutrophication.1Scopus© Citations 14WOS© IF 0.461WOS© AIF 2.041Scopus© SNIP 0.466 - research articleBaltic Botanic gardens in 2007-2008 : Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. ;Koreivienė, Judita; ;Kasperovičienė, JūratėEnvironmental monitoring and assessment. Dordrecht : Springer, 2014, vol. 186, iss. 7., p. 4443-4459The occurrence and severity of harmful cyanobacterial or blue-green algal blooms (HABs) have increased in recent decades, posing a serious threat of illness to humans. In some countries, water contaminated with cyanotoxins that is used for drinking or haemodialysis has posed a particularly serious risk. However, it is now recognized that recreational exposure to natural toxins by skin contact, accidental swallowing of water or inhalation can also cause a wide range of acute or chronic illnesses. In this review, we focus on the importance of cyanotoxin management in recreational waters. The symptoms related with HAB poisonings, the recommended safety concentrations limit for cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins in such waters, as well as early health hazard indicators of their presence and their monitoring are all discussed. We also present in this review an overview of the methods developed in recent decades for eliminating cyanobacteria and the toxic compounds that they produce.1Scopus© Citations 39WOS© IF 1.679WOS© AIF 2.954Scopus© SNIP 1.367 Publication Dekoratyvieji augalai senosiose Klaipėdos krašto kapinėse[Decorative plants the old cemetries of Klaipėda region]research articleActa historica universitatis Klaipedensis: Klaipėdos krašto konfesinis paveldas: tarpdisciplininiai senųjų kapinių tyrimai = Confessional heritage of Klaipėda region: interdisciplinary research into the old cemeteriesStraipsnyje aptariama dekoratyviųjų žolinių ir sumedėjusių augalų rūšių įvairovė, šių augalų paplitimas senosiose protestantiškose kapinėse. Didžiausia dekoratyviųjų augalų rūšių įvairovė (daugiau nei 20 rūšių) nustatyta prižiūrimose, šiuo metu naudojamose kapinėse: Mantvydų I ir Kukorų. Iš viso kapinėse inventorizuota beveik 60 rūšių dekoratyviųjų augalų. Tarp sumedėjusių augalų vyravo paprastosios alyvos (Syringa vulgaris L.) ir vakarinės tujos (Thuja occidentalis L.). Tarp žolinių dekoratyviųjų augalų išsiskyrė kelių rūšių ir veislių melsvės (Hosta L.), paprastieji sinavadai (Aquilegia vulgaris L.), paprastosios pakalnutės (Convallaria majalis L.).3 - Straipsnyje aptariami Klaipėdos universiteto Botanikos sodo privalumai: kaupiamos kolekcijos, turtinga vietovės istorinė praeitis, vaizdingi kraštovaizdžiai ir aiški ateities vizija. KU Botanikos sodas įsikūręs istorinėje vietoje - Klaipėdos ir jos apylinkių gražinimo ir svetimšalių pritraukimo sąjungos puoselėto parko teritorijoje. Botanikos sode kaupiamos šios kolekcijos: dendrologinė kolekcija, vaistinių ir prieskoninių augalų, gėlių, vijoklinių augalų ir kt.

After the dendroflora research it was established that the most frequent kinds in all farmsteads were west thuja, spring fiz tree, ordinary lilac, kitchen garden jasmine. Ornamental trees and shrubs distinguished leaves and splended blossoms.1 - research article
; ; Koreivienė, JuditaInternational journal of environmental research. Tehran, 2015, vol. 9, iss. 1., p. 233-246Anthropogenic eutrophication conditioned frequent and more pronounced blooms of toxic algae and cyanobacteria in the fresh and saline aquatic ecosystems all world around. However, blooming species could serve as a possible resource instead of a threat by exploiting them to remediate nutrients. The optimised use of algae and cyanobacteria may provide the environmental service together with economic benefit that could be obtained from their biomass. The aim of this study was to identify microalgae species from Curonian Lagoon that could be prospective candidates for cultivation in Lithuania, and statistically determine how the accumulation of their biomass correlated with the changes in environmental conditions, using five years monitoring data. Five species, frequently acquiring a much larger biomass (up to 70 mg/L) over other species, were identified: Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, Planktothrix agardhii, Actinocyclus normanii f. subsalsus, Diatoma tenuis and Stephanodiscus rotula. The optimal cultivation conditions were proposed based on results of the analysis and the potential their biomass applications are discussed.3WOS© IF 0.992WOS© AIF 3.107Scopus© SNIP 0.898
