Studies in Klaipėda University are implemented in degree-awarding study programmes.

Degree-awarding study programmes are of three cycles: 1st cycle, or Bachelor’s, 2nd cycle, or Master’s, and 3rdcycle, or Doctoral.

The first cycle university degree study programmes provide universal general education and focus on the theoretical background and the highest level professional skills. Upon completion of those studies, students are awarded a Bachelor’s degree, or a Bachelor’s degree and a professional qualification, in a relevant field of study, certified by a Bachelor’s diploma.

The second cycle (Master’s) university degree study programmes are designed for students to get prepared for independent research (art) activity or any other activity that requires scientific knowledge and analytical skills. Upon completion of the Master’s study programmes, students are awarded a Master’s degree, or a Master’s degree and a qualification, certified by a Master’s diploma.

The third cycle studies are doctoral studies. Upon completing them and defending a doctoral dissertation, a PhD degree in science (arts) is awarded, certified by a PhD diploma.

Lithuania has a national higher education quality assurance system. Only accreditted study programmes can be implemented. An accredited study programme shall for a specified period be registered in the Register of Studies, Training Programmes, and Qualifications.

The scope of studies is measured in study credits. A study credit is a unit of the scope of an academic subject to measure the learning outcomes and the student workload. 1,600 hours of study in an academic year correspond to 60 credits. One study credit equals one European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credit.

Bachelor’s degree programmes (full time)

Bachelor’s (1st cycle) study programmes are designed for the mastering of the theoretical fundamentals and the development of generic skills. The studies are oriented towards higher university education, the formation of basic knowledge in the chosen study field, and the development of the highest level professional skills.

Environmental engineering

Study programme description

After completing this degree program, you are an Environmental Engineer. In this profession you can work as an environmental specialist, laboratory, company, department or project manager, pollution control equipment designer, technological equipment maintenance specialist, analyst-researcher in various industrial and port, transport and waste management companies, public environmental institutions, private environmental firms, research and design institutes, environmental systems operation services, and environmental research laboratories.

What do my alumni think?

During my studies I had to study deep sciences like higher mathematics, physics, drawing, chemistry. Science has developed quite good logical thinking and understanding of various technologies. This has made it easier to establish a position in the labor market related to the implementation of new technologies and production of measuring equipment. The skills acquired during the study years in laboratory work later became useful in practical work with sophisticated devices for measuring chemical and physical parameters.

Chemistry engineering

Study programme description

Interested in chemistry? Technological processes? You know the 21st Century. called the Age of Chemistry? Want to become a significant part of it? Then this degree program is just for you. Yes, for you, because after graduating in chemical engineering you will work as a designer, technologist, operator, chemist in industrial and port companies, research and design institutes, chemistry laboratories, and after management experience you will be able to work as a laboratory, department or company manager.

What do my alumni think?

I graduated from KU with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in oil technology. You need to learn to achieve something! While working for a multinational company, I realized that technical education is a trump card for pursuing a career in foreign companies, particularly in areas such as oil and petroleum trading, quality control and environmental protection. Working with giants such as BP, Shell, Chevron, I can safely say that we are sorely missing this market!

Study programme description

Starting with the light bulb on, starting and stopping the motors, and completing these studies, you will have both theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical circuits, power electronics, microprocessor control devices, and design, design and control electronic devices, robots. You are a power engineer, electrical, automation or electronics engineer, and developer of various automated and robotic processes.

What do my alumni think?

First of all, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the department’s lecturers: they were always available for consultation on any issue or equipment. I gained not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills in the field of electrical and electronics. I use my skills easily in various projects funded by the European Union and in my current work.

What do my students do?

The studies of mechanical engineering have been very interesting to me personally: the lectures given by the lecturers are very detailed, there is a lot of useful and interesting information, and the theory is best connected with practical examples. There’s a lot of work to be done on drafting programs, because quite a few companies use the same programs. We also learn a lot about new technological innovations, we get strong basics about various technological equipment and its working principles.

Additional study

Study programme description

Those with a professional bachelor’s degree can study under the integrated study program Integrated Engineering, after which they can study in the Master’s degree programs of the Department of Engineering.

Klaipėda University supplementary studies are intended for persons who have acquired higher college education. The volume of supplementary studies is up to 60 ECTS credits. Studies cover the core subjects of the field of study so that the student has sufficient knowledge and skills necessary for successful postgraduate studies. Duration of studies up to 1 year. The person completing the supplementary studies shall be issued with an academic certificate entitling him or her to take part in the competition for the relevant Master’s degree program.

Postgraduate studies – the second cycle of studies denote higher education in a particular field of science, readiness to study in postgraduate doctoral studies. The studies are designed to equip highly qualified professionals familiar with the latest scientific theories, technologies and methods and capable of creatively applying the knowledge acquired in studies to scientific and practical activities.

The volume of master studies is 90 to 120 credits. Most of the study time is devoted to research and the preparation of a Master’s thesis.

Production engineering programme

Study programme description

Production engineering program are designed to develop technology experience in the field of manufacturing engineering, raising master scientific expertise relevant to the modern industrial equipment, its reliability assessment, design and analysis of technical systems its numerical and mathematical modeling, process analysis, management and optimization.
Having acquired a manufacturing engineering postgraduate qualification graduates can work in various industries (food, chemicals, furniture, textiles, etc.) as constructors, technical consultants, heads industry company or its department, project managers.
