The Department of Informatics and Statistics of the Faculty of Marine Engineering and Natural Sciences, Klaipėda University, was set up in 2015 by merging the Departments of Informatics, Informatics Engineering, and Mathematics and Statistics.
The new Department formed a competent multiprofile staff of academics and researchers, consisting of both professors and associate professors with extensive academic and technological expertise and young enthusiastic assistants, lecturers, and doctoral students.
To date, the Department implements 4 undergraduate and 4 graduate study programmes. The Bachelor‘s study programmes include those of Informatics, Informatics Engineering (full- and part-time), and Applied Statistics, while the Master‘s study programmes include those of Information Systems, Technical Information Systems Engineering, Geoinformatics, and Statistics and Operations Research. Doctoral studies are implemented both at KU and in other institutions. All the implemented study programmes successfuly went through the procedures of external quality evaluation and accreditation and were accredited for a maximum 6-year period (http://pluto.skvc.lt/StudyProgramResults.aspx).
The researchers of the Department participate in national and international research and R&D projects together with researcher teams from the universities of Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, Great Britain, and the Ukraine and involve students in research activities. The research outcomes are annually presented in national and international conferences and are published in prestigious scientific journals.
The Department is an active long-term the EU Erasmus+ programme participant: student and staff exchange takes part with various European universities from Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Latvia, etc.
