Klaipeda University is located in the seaport city, which is an important transport hub, connected by international transport corridors, air, and water and railway lines with Scandinavian, CIS and other markets. The engineering and maritime industry has been developing here, and the largest free economic zone in Lithuania is successfully operating. An innovation ecosystem is being created in Klaipeda, in which a dynamic community driven by a common goal seeks to create added value and share competencies. All are united by the intensifying competitive struggle for young and talented people.

At the same time Klaipeda is only 15 minutes away from UNESCO’s natural heritage sites, therefore efforts are being made to balance the impact of the city and technology on the historical and cultural heritage and the surrounding nature.

Due to the niche specialization in marine sciences and technologies, KU became a member of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cluster in 2016 and a member of Lithuanian Maritime Cluster in 2020. In 2019, KU has become a member of EU CONEXUS, which brings together universities from 6 countries for the sustainable development of smart coastal cities, with the aim of making a significant contribution to the sustainable development of the world and the creation of a blue economy.

KU inspires and engages young people to pursue a sustainable career in the maritime sector, which includes naval architecture, shipbuilding, ship repair, alternative and renewable energy, maritime transport, seaport management and offers many travelling opportunities and working in a multicultural context.

Klaipėda university is recognized internationally for research and study achievements and innovations significant for the welfare of the Baltic Sea Region. The University equipped with advanced research facilities, got together scientists and researchers for common activities: the staff are able to deal with technological and sustainable development issues relevant for the maritime industries and shipping, to investigate the impact of the global change on the marine and coastal natural resources and ecosystems, to implement the goals of the EU integrated maritime policies, and to train highly skilled specialists.

The Faculty of Marine Technology and Natural Sciences trains bachelors and Master of Engineering and technologies, informatics, information systems and statistics as highly skilled erudites who will be able to engage in lifelong learning and to maintain and disseminate humanistic values. The faculty offers three unique study programmes in the field of marine engineering: Marine Transport Engineering (Bachelor degree), Shipping and Port Engineering (Bachelor and Master Degree).
