On the invitation of the Rector of Klaipėda University, on 15 April 2015, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany H.E. Mrs. Jutta Schmitz paid an official visit to KU. Mrs. Schmitz was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in the consular district of Klaipėda dr. A. Baublys. The aim of the visit was to get better acquainted with Klaipėda University, with the research conducted in it, and its prospects and plans. During the visit, the Ambassador met with the KU Rector prof. dr. habil. Eimutis Juzeliūnas and Vice-Rectors assoc. prof. dr. R. Vaičekauskaitė and prof. dr. K. Dučinskas. The meeting was attended by prof. dr. phil. dr. h. C. Winfried Böttcher, the head of Klaus Mehnert European Institute, and Christian Welscher who discussed with the KU leaders the opportunities of the Institute’s coming to Klaipėda University.
The Ambassador met with the researchers of the Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology who introduced her to their research in the field of Klaipėda Region archives and emphasised its significance to the history of the region and the studies of individual family histories. In the meeting attended by social partner representatives, the researchers of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences presented an idea of the Centre of the German Language, Business Culture, and Business Ethics. Of great interest were the issues of energy security implementation and the introduction of a new study programme LNG Terminal Engineering presented by the scientists of the Faculty of Marine Engineering and Natural Sciences and Klaipėda Science and Technology Park.
When summing up the meeting, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany H.E. Mrs. Jutta Schmitz noted that the meeting was very productive and important as it allowed her to get to know more than just Klaipėda University. Meetings with the researchers proved that the research conducted in the University was important and significant at the regional and international level and emphasised the significance of its international dissemination for the promotion of cooperation of all the Baltic Region and its individual countries in the field of science and studies.
The Ambassador visited the buildings of the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences and of the Academy of Arts and was briefly introduced to the history of those buildings.
