On July 16–17, Klaipėda University (KU) was visited by representatives of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University(KazNU). A researcher group from the Research Centre for German Studies of the Faculty of International Relations, KazNU, and the representatives of KU discussed the opportunities of collaboration of the universities in student exchange programmes, joint projects, scientific research, and joint study programmes. The meeting was attended by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Klaipėda dr. Benediktas Petrauskas.
The guests presented an opportunity of KU participation in the project The Diaspora Factor in Kazakhstan‘s Foreign Policy and Diplomacy with regard to European Countries, which will also consider the circumstances of the emergence of the Lithuanian diaspora and its life in Kazakhstan. In the implementation of the project, the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is interested in collaboration with Lithuanian universities.
The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is one of the largest and most prestigious higher schols in Kazakhstan, ranked first among the national multi-profile national schools. So far, the KazNU has been successfully cooperating with Kaunas Technology, Vilnius Gediminas Technical, and Vytautas Magnus Universities.
According to prof. dr. Rimantas Balsys, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, cooperation with the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University allows KU both to expand the geography of its interests and also to carry out unique scientific research. “It opens up prospects for the humanities and social sciences to work on new material we have not had access to. In this case, our historians would have an opportunity to work with the Kazakhstan archives”, said prof. dr. Balsys.
