Klaipėda University will Become a Partner of Best Universities of the Netherlands

On June 13–14, Klaipėda University will be visited by an official delegation from the Eindhoven University of Technology and the Henze University of Applied Sciences, the Kingdom of the Netherlands. On June 15, during the visit of the Dutch royal family to Vilnius, an agreement of strategic partnership between Klaipėda University and the Eindhoven University of Technology and the Henze University of Applied Sciences will be signed. The ceremony will be attended by the President of the Republic of Lithuanian Dalia Grybauskaitė, Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, and Minister of Education and Science Jurgita Petrauskienė.

The aim of the strategic partnership is the collaboration of the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Henze University of Applied Sciences, and Klaipėda University in the research in the field of energy: the development of a network of cryogenic fuel (such as liquid hydrogen/ liquid natural gas) ecologicall, hybrid energy. The universities will collaborate in the fields of technologies and the environmental, legal, and economic issues related to the sustainable use of the green kinds of fuels in the blue Baltic Sea corridor, the creation of public value, and the provision of new business opportunities.

Klaipėda University is the only higher educational institution in the Baltic countries that implements a study programme of Engineering of the Liquefied Natural Gas Terminals and conducts research in the field. The University is a partner in the Lithuanian LNG cluster, the Lithuanian LNG platform,and its also has an LNG Competence Centre. Moreover, Klaipėda has a developed LNG infrastructure: a FSRU Independence and advanced laboratories in the Marine Research Institute of Klaipėda University fit for scientific research at an advanced level.

As stated by prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, Rector at interim of Klaipėda University, the strategic partnership with Eindhoven University of Technology and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences of the Kingdom of the Netherlands means the recognition and appreciation of the level of Klaipėda University. “This is a historic event for Klaipėda University, a significant contribution to the university development and growth with strategic partners of that level. It provides great opportunities to collaborate and carry out important international projects in the field of energy both to the university researchers and to students who will be involved in research activities, will be able to travel abroad through exchange programmes, and will do international apprenticeships in foreign business companies”.

A delegation from the Eindhoven University of Technology and the Henze University of Applied Sciences, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, will be visiting the Marine Research Institute of Klaipėda University on June 14. They will see its contemporary laboratories and learn about the research projects carried out there. Later, they will visit AB Klaipėdos nafta and the FSRU Independence. On June 15, in a Bilateral Energy Forum in Vilnius, a strategic partnership agreement will be signed.
