Klaipėda University (KU) has over 3,500 students. Academic degrees in it are pursued not merely by Lithuanian students, but also by foreign citizens from India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other countries.
The choice was predetermined by the sea
Olagoke Oludare Iyiola from Nigeria has been studying social work at Klaipėda University for three years. “I was looking for a suitable country and a study programme that I would like to take. I like to take care of children, therefore, having found a study programme of Social Work at Klaipėda University, I made up my mind to come and study here “, the student explained his choice to study in Lithuania.
Nirbhay Singh from India, who seeks a bachelor’s degree in the same study programme, frankly admits that his choice was predetermined by financial circumstances: “The cost of studies and living in Lithuania is lower than in Western European countries.” The young man commented his choice to study at KU: “Klaipėda University is a well-known higher educational institution in Lithuania. When I was looking for information about studies abroad, I found KU that could offer my dream study programme and a good curriculum. I like to spend my free time at the seaside, therefore, studies in Klaipėda looked like the best choice. It is a quiet place, and that is probably the only place in which I would like to spend all my life.”
Rakshith Gowda Hoovinahalli Kantharaju from India who studies Mechanical Engineering said that his love for the sea was a decisive factor when choosing where to study: “Klaipėda is a seaport, and I love spending time on the beach.”
They like their teachers in the University
When asked what they liked best at KU, foreign students were unanimous: they liked their teachers. “As a future social worker, I find the atmosphere important. The staff of Klaipėda University take a good care of me, and I feel at home here”, shared his impressions a student from Nigeria. “I like the way the teachers work with us. They teach us both theory and practice and motivate us to improve. Thanks to them, I went to study to Belgium under the Erasmus programme, ” said Nirbhay from the study programme of Social Work.
Students explained that, when studying in the seaport, they wanted to get acquainted with the history of the city and Lithuanian culture, as well as to find some hobbies. Thus, Rakshith found for himself a boxing ring, Olagoke liked to spend his time in the Old City of Klaipėda or to walk by the sea, while Nirbhay was most fascinated by the Sea Festival, Lithuanian cuisine, and the changeable Lithuanian weather.
