On 27 July, Gennadiy Trukhanov, Mayor of Odessa (the Ukraine) together with Sergej Tetiukhin, Head of the Department of Economic Development of the Odessa Municipality, visited Klaipėda University. Their meeting with the representatives of Klaipėda University was also attended by Judita Simonavičiūtė, Vice-Mayor of the city of Klaipėda.
During the meeting, prof. dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, Rector at interim of Klaipėda University, prof. dr. Leta Dromantienė, KU Vice-Rector for studies, dr. Silva Pocytė, chief researcher of the Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology, prof. dr. Rimantas Balsys, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, dr. Arūnas Baublys, Honorary Consul of Germany in Klaipėda, and the Mayor of Odessa Gennadiy Trukhanov discussed the opportunities of the development of studies and science and the prospects of further cooperation.
A partnership agreement between the cities of Klaipėda and Odessa was signed in 2004. The cities agreed to cooperate in the fields of economic activity and trade, education, research, culture, sports, tourism, etc.
