Abstract
In 2019, a total of 30 m2 was excavated in the settlement at the foot of Žardė hillfort. Archaeologically valuable cultural layers were discovered in test pits 1 and 3 (Figs. 1, 2). These contained more than ten fragments of hand built pottery: with brushed, grainy, rough, and smooth surfaces (Figs. 3, 4), pieces of amber, a flint fragment, pieces of charred clay daub, and iron smelting waste: bloomery walls and slag. Based on the collected pottery, the archaeological layer was preliminarily dated to the 1st millennium bc – early 2nd millennium ad.
