Abstract
The article deals with the comparative analysis of some sociodemographic and socioeconomic characteristics of Western Lithuania rural tourism service providers. The comparative analysis method was used to determine stability and changes of characteristics, that are approached as preconditions for the growth of rural tourism service providers' competence and rural tourism services' quality in rural tourism transition from amateur to professional business. In the article are highlighted main direction of rural tourism providers research problematics presented in foreign research literature.
