Abstract
The article deals with the results of stroke prevention and control program in Klaipėda during 1995-2003. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of this programme in Klaipėda using a hospital-based, prospective registration study of all stroke patients admitted to Klaipėda Hospital between January 1995 and December 2003. In acute stroke unit of Klaipėda Hospital 3732 patients were admitted. After the discharge the long term rehabilitation was continued at home. The number of acute stroke patients leaved for home treatment gradually decreased (10.6 % of patients in 2003) as well as increased a number of hospitalized patients in acute stroke unit.
