Abstract
The territory of Žiemgala has been researched unevenly – its Latvian part was more researched than the Lithuanian one. In 12-13th centuries there were widespread the usual burying and the burning of the dead bodies. A lot of changes appeared in the material culture of Semigallians as they traded actively with Western Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and the countries of the East. Because of crusaders’ attacks on the eastern Baltic countries, the Semigallians were forced to migrate in the 13th century mostly to the state of Lithuania.
