Before the conduction of the research, a project “Community Dinner on Christmas Eve” was designed. The aim of this project is to perform the traditional ritual of the Christmas Eve dinner and to create psychological and socio-cultural prerequisites for adults with schizophrenia to become involved in community life. The project was designed to solve the problem of desolation among people with schizophrenia. It is known that the majority of patients live alone or the ritual of Christmas Eve’s dinner in their families is rather simple, in separation from the ancient traditions of the Baltic culture. What is more, very often the search for the healing spiritual power in this ritual is abandoned. It was sought to help people understand and become acquainted with the symbolic meaning of the Christmas Eve dinner. Also, it was aimed at helping those with schizophrenia to experience nature’s transformation (solstice) and to relate it to hope that one can have a brighter, easier life and recovery. In addition, other aims involved achieving psycho-educational goals (i.e. educating healthy people on this illness, on inner anxiety and communication problems) as well as promoting just treatment of those with schizophrenia. It was believed that information on the sacral Christmas Eve ritual that was performed together will form a more positive attitude of the society towards people with schizophrenia. Aim of the research – to analyze the influence of Christmas Eve ritual on the mood, self evaluation and social skills of schizophrenic patients. Results and conclusion. The involvement of patients with schizophrenia into the life of their community encourages them to act further, provides with positive emotions, strengthens their self-trust, improves the quality of communication with the surrounding people, reduces the pathological fear and the feeling of being unwanted. Rituals, performed during the Christmas Eve dinner, are one of the possible ways in which the self-appreciation and self-esteem of the patients could be improved. Vydunas‘ philosophy is actual. Old spiritual traditions has power to strengthen humanities, the feeling of the society, and natural human powers in soul of an individual, and lead to better health.
