The article deals with the some problems of literary education. Contemporary didactics of literature attempts to combine not a few opposing tendencies: tradition and innovation, traditional and active methods of teaching, normative and intuitive methods, a teacher as an expert in his subject (literature) and a teacher as a professional pedagogue ("master"), a literature lesson as a process of work and a literature lesson as a game, etc.
