Introductory article, presenting an a comparative analysis of most popular diesel engine mathematical simulationsoftware packages for practical use (AVL, BOOST, Diesel RK). Comparative analysis includes comparison of primary data arrays necessary for mathematical model calibration withreal engine, also operational and ecological diesel engine characteristics modelling adequacy and etc. Analysis of differenttypes of models and there practical uses in engine Goal is reached by use of detailed analysis of indicated processsimulation algorithms. Priorities of diesel engine modelling software packages are determined by solving typicalengine synthesis and analysis tasks.
