The conception of continuing (constant) education (self-education) becomes stronger while the processes of European integration are speeding up. This conception is expressed by a concrete person as his/her idea of self-education during the life span, and self-dependent work of everyone gains a special meaning in it. This article tries to reveal the possibilities and advantages of the original work, striving for the development of the students' learning skills. This article reviews the attitudes of the educators towards self-dependant work, its importance and possibilities, students' opinions concerning the nature and problems of an authentic work. The data is generalised and the conclusions are made, as well as the recommendations are given, which define the conditions necessary for successful self-dependent work.
