The research area extend from the Southern borders of the Curonians through to the Northern border of the Samogitians. In the 13th century the ethnic borders of these tribes were not identical to the political borders. The territorial and administrative structures in the Curonian and Samogitian territories before the 13th century were similar. Using archaeological data the sub-territories of Gardai, Gegrėnai, Grigaičiai, Pietvė, Alsėdžiai, Gondinga can be identified in the Southern part of the Ceklis tribal land. The sacred places permit establishing precise borders of these subterritories or castle lands.
