The article analyzes playing culture changes in the 20th-21st centuries. Since the 3rd decade of the 20th century the pan flute playing culture has experienced fundamental changes. Until then, the panpipes culture had prevailed in villages, while nowadays it keeps extending to the city culture, and panpipes spreads in all Lithuania region. The panpipes playing environment is changing as well, as the pan flute is played in concert halls and during various festivals. The instruments have maintained their shape and form until this day. The improvement of instruments is seen only in the extension of diatonic scale and tempered harmonization as well as in the use of new materials for instrument production. The panpipes till this day have been used only for ensemble performance. The traditional repertoire is pan-piped, the works and contemporary compositions have been created according to the laws of functional harmony.
