The paper reviews and assesses Ida Stankevičiūtės (1952- 2006), the folklorist, traveller, and co-worker at the Neris National Park efforts to register ethnological, mythological, and linguistic material related to the Neris focussing on the area between Vilnius and Kernavė, where Lithuanian culture and statehood took shape.
