The main focus of research is based on geographic comparison of borderlands of Lithuania and Kaliningrad region. The border areas of these neighbouring countries have common and different historical development. In general, these borderlands are being researched in historical, cultural perspectives, and nowadays there are performed significant researches of various territorial units, like cross-border and trans-border regions. Euro regions that are formed implementing the EU regional policy and strategies of national and regional development. Thus, the borderlands have to be researched in eomparative aspects for more detail understanding and definition of their role in cross-border and trans-border activities, social economic development as well. Relatively, the laek of geographic comparative knowledge about borderlands ot Lithuania and Kaliningrad region, it makes these areas more peripheral in regional context and adjacent for applied geographic researches.
