Most often occuring breakdowns in mill type rotor machines are rotor's unbalance that caused bearings' failure. The additional dynamic loads damaging bearings occur at run up and coast down of the machines. The dynamic loads of variable mass inertia rotor systems are considerably different in comparison to constant mass inertia rotors. This paper presents the experimental research results of three mills, of the same functionality, but basically different design: two rotors with varying mass inertia moments and one with constant mass inertia moment. The absolute vibration of the bearing housings was measured with seismic transducers and diagnostic made with Vibration Signal Analyzer A4300. Research was provided with mills machines operating in industrial mode and results used for prognosis of unexpected breakdowns of rotors.
