Straipsnyje siekiama išryškinti Prūsų Lietuvos filosofo ir rašytojo Vydūno kūrybos recepcijos Lietuvoje ypatumus. Autorė pateikia Vydūno misteriją „Jūrų varpai“ recenzuojančių ir jo kūrybą aptariančių Lietuvos rašytojų Balio Sruogos ir Julijono Lindės-Dobilo literatūrinės polemikos analizę. Kontroversiška B. Sruogos recenzija į literatūrinę polemiką įtraukia ir patį misterijos autorių, taip išprovokuodama atvirą literatūrinį ginčą. Straipsnyje nuo probleminio klausimo apie Vydūno kūrinių sudėtingumą pereinama prie klausimo, kodėl B. Sruoga atsisakė profesionalaus kritinio kūrinio vertinimo ir atkakliai laikėsi nuomonės, kad Vydūno kūryba nepriimtina Lietuvos skaitytojui. Straipsnyje taip pat pristatoma, kaip po kelerių metų pasikeičia B. Sruogos pozicija Vydūno asmens ir jo kūrybos atžvilgiu.
The article seeks to emphasize peculiarity of reception of the oeuvre of Prussian Lithuanian philosopher and writer Vilhelmas Storosta-Vydūnas (1868–1953). The author represents analysis of the literary polemic between Lithuanian writers Balys Sruoga (1896–1947) and Julijonas Lindė- Dobilas (1872–1934). The polemic arises from B. Sruoga’s (by pseudonym Sirakuzinas) review written for Vydūnas’s mystery play Jūrų varpai in the literature magazine Skaitymai in 1921. This review which is written by invoking sharp irony qualifies the play rather negatively. Despite the denied comprehensive analysis of the mystery play, B. Sruoga concludes that Vydūnas’s writings are dense so unacceptable for Lithuanian reader. After B. Sruoga’s review was published, J. Lindė-Dobilas assumed to defend creative works of Vydūnas. He writes a responsive article about whole Vydūnas’s oeuvre. He argues that works of Vydūnas are of special philosophical nature and very important for Lithuanian reader. Vydūnas also decides to fend his writings and injured dignity. He expresses his resentment in the newspaper Darbymetis (published and edited by Vydūnas in 1921–1925). The articles of Vydūnas where he criticizes young reviewer Sirakuzinas for his disrespect to well-known writers and Lithuanian reader, provoke another sharp B. Sruoga’s responsive articles. This paper discusses not only question about intricacy of Vydūnas’s works but seeks to answer the question: why B. Sruoga rejects professional critical evaluation of the mystery play and insistently holds an opinion that Vydūnas’s oeuvre is unacceptable for Lithuanian reader. Moreover, subsequent B. Sruoga’s texts about Lithuanian writers allow us to find out totally changed his attitude in respect of Vydūnas as individual and writer. Just after four years B. Sruoga names Vydūnas as one of the four foremost writers in Lithuania. [...]
